Chongqing City Lights at Night

A friend and former colleague from Chongqing, China took a day to show me his city.  One of the highlights was this view of the Hongyadong Commercial Street at night, framed by Qiansimen Bridge and the World Financial Center, with the Jiefangbei office towers in the background.  All of their lights sparkled and reflected in the Jialing River just before it empties into the mighty Yangtze.    Chongqing City Lights at Night

Autumn Colors Mirrored in “The Pool” at Central Park

Following a pause for my very busy summer, I’m ready to introduce some new pieces.   In honor of the arrival of of meteorological autumn, I’m posting a series of autumn-related works.  The first of these, Autumn Colors Mirrored in “The Pool” at Central Park, features one of those perfect November days in New York when the sky is blue, the wind is still, and the lakes and ponds are like glass, reflecting vivid fall colors at their peak. Ljubljana Castle with Breg Embankment on the Ljubljanica River

I spent three spring days in Ljubljana rain, which started several days before I arrived and continued after I departed.  The rain added to the feeling of lushness, with several varieties of flowering trees decorating the scenic and historical Breg Embankment.  The Ljubljana Castle, a medieval fortress, rises in the background from its perch on Castle Hill. Hiking in the Pyrenees near Vall de Nuria (Spain)

Traveling from Barcelona, I took a regional train to Ribes de Freser and transferred to the Nuria Track Railway. The rack railway is the only way to reach the remote Vall de Nuria, which was quite cold even in May and still experiencing snow.   The area is primarily known for skiing, and the railway terminates at the ski lodge.  In spring, it’s a base to hike in the surrounding mountains, though trails can still be a bit slippery with snow and ice.  In this piece, I hiked up a trail to capture a view of the lodge nestled in towering green mountains that were glazed with a bit of snow. Grand Canal of Trieste at Twilight

I have not posted for a period of time, as I was busy traveling and photographing!  My first piece from this recent trip is “Grand Canal of Trieste at Twilight”.   While visting Slovenia, I took a jaunt to Trieste to escape the persistent rains of Ljubljana.  I had always wanted to visit Trieste, but had never made it despite many previous trips to Italy.  Long influenced by Venice, the city’s more recent history was as a Cold War outpost surrounded on three sides by Yugoslavia, which sought to and failed to absorb it after World War II.  This image reflects the city’s Venetian influence, but it seemed somehow fitting that I arrived there from the former Yugoslavia.
