The Hudson River as a Mirror

Riding the train along an isolated section of the Hudson River in Columbia County, New York, we passed a narrow spit of land extending into the calm, reflective water. On this still, clear autumn day, the tiny dwelling perched on the spit seems like an idyllic retreat—a place to savor morning coffee while admiring the perfect mirror of hills, clouds, and trees. The spit and the small structure are also gently reflected in the glassy surface, adding to the tranquility of the scene. This serene reflection captures the quiet beauty and peaceful stillness of the moment.  This is the third piece of four in our Hudson River series. The Hudson River as a Mirror

Autumn Ridges Rising Beyond the Hudson

In Greene County, New York, a rugged ridge rises directly from the Hudson River, with the towering peaks of the Catskill Escarpment looming sharply in the background.  The river mirrors the vibrant autumn colors of the ridge, while the dramatic escarpment towers above, creating a striking natural backdrop. Bannerman Castle Amid Autumn’s Blush

Traveling up the Hudson River by train near Beacon, NY on a warm October day, a vision of the ruins of Bannerman Castle on Pollepel Island emerged.  Tinted in the soft blush of autumn light, the castle looms like an echo of a long-lost civilization.  Constructed in the early 1900s as a munitions storage facility, its crumbling archways amid lush foliage evoke the grandeur of ancient ruins.  The scene is reminiscent of Rome’s timeless beauty. This artwork captures the serene beauty of Bannerman Castle.   It offers a glimpse into the Hudson Valley’s rich past, natural splendor and architectural history. Washington Monument at Twilight

When I visit Washington, I enjoy my runs along the Mall and around the Tidal Basin at dusk, with twilight gently descending.  On one particular evening, I paused to capture this captivating image of the monument. The setting sun cast a warm, golden glow upon the monument’s western side, while simultaneously painting the eastern sky with an intriguing palette of colors.  Washington Monument at Twilight
