Traveling up the Hudson River by train near Beacon, NY on a warm October day, a vision of the ruins of Bannerman Castle on Pollepel Island emerged. Tinted in the soft blush of autumn light, the castle looms like an echo of a long-lost civilization. When I visit Washington, I enjoy my runs along the Mall and around the Tidal Basin at dusk, with twilight gently descending. On one particular evening, I paused to capture this captivating image of the monument.
