Grand Canyon 1: River Carved Chasm Beneath a Textured Sky

Grand Canyon river winding through a deep chasm with layered rock formations under a partly cloudy textured sky.

This spring, I took my first trip to the Grand Canyon, and it was every bit as spectacular in person as photos and postcards suggest. The sky was a mix of sun and clouds, creating patterns and lighting that shifted from subtle to dramatic above the vast expanse of the Canyon. I spent hours hiking along the South Rim, from the Bright Angel Trailhead to Pima Point, stopping often to take in the views and capture photographs. With so many striking scenes, it was hard to choose which images to feature. This one is one of my favorites, and was taken from Pima Point, looking north.
