Traveling from Barcelona, I took a regional train to Ribes de Freser and transferred to the Nuria Track Railway. The rack railway is the only way to reach the remote Vall de Nuria, which was quite cold even in May and still experiencing snow. The area is primarily known for skiing, and the railway terminates at the ski lodge. In spring, it’s a base to hike in the surrounding mountains, though trails can still be a bit slippery with snow and ice. In this piece, I hiked up a trail to capture a view of the lodge nestled in towering green mountains that were glazed with a bit of snow.
