While on a bike tour of the Mosel River wine country, I paused to enjoy the view of the river, the town of Oberfell, the vineyards mid-way up the steep hill above, and the ruins of the Thurant Castle crowning the hilltop. In Shanghai Tower Above the Clouds and Under Construction, I was staying at the hotel located in the Jinmao Tower in Shanghai (tallest building in China from 1998-2007). The adjacent and newly constructed Shanghai Tower (which became the tallest building in China upon completion) broke through the thick layer of clouds below, ascending into the deep blue sky. As I was Crossing Columbus Avenue at Dusk on a warm evening at the end of October, the New York City sky seemed to radiate heat. I had to capture this image quickly, for although I was crossing with the light, fire trucks were barreling down the avenue with sirens blaring, heading towards a fire.
