Grand Canal of Trieste at Twilight
$549.00
While spending a few days in Slovenia, I took a jaunt to Trieste to escape persistent Slovenian rains. I had always wanted to visit Trieste. Long influenced by Venice, it’s more recent history was as a cold war outpost. Almost absorbed by post-WWII Yugoslavia, it remained a part of the West but was virtually encircled by communist Yugoslavia. Thus, it seemed fitting that, after many visits to Italy, I finally made it to Trieste via Slovenia, traveling by bus across it’s now meaningless border (both are Schengen countries). This image highlights the city’s Venetian influence – and the location even borrows the title “Grand Canal” from its Venetian sibling.
