In Santa Maria dell’Itria Rising Over Ragusa Ibla, the church’s blue‑tiled bell tower lifts above the terraced rooftops of Ragusa Ibla, the historic quarter of Ragusa, Sicily. I spent much of this abnormally warm and sunny mid-April day wandering the narrow alleys and hidden corners of this labyrinthine, medieval city. Toward the end of the afternoon, I climbed the terraced staircases in the northeastern part of Ibla that intersect the winding Corso Giuseppe Mazzini, stopping at several overlooks as I continued higher. This particular spot offered the perfect angle — the blue bell tower rising above the terraced rooftops, with the Antico Convento dei Cappuccini anchoring the far ridge.
